Welcome to my Blog!

Hi! My name is Valerie Dietsche. I am a wife of ten years and a homeschooling mom of three beautiful children. After a couple of stints overseas, we've now been settled for several years in our little fixer-upper in small-town America. Photography has been an interest of mine for a while, but just recently have I begun pursuing it as more than just a hobby. I love nature and being outdoors, as you can probably tell by many of my photos. I am now branching out into photographing people, as well. Other interests of mine include reading, (both personally and with my kids), good music, good coffee, and good company! You'll learn a lot more about me as you follow along with my random assortment of blog posts, and hopefully you'll also enjoy the photos along the way.

Thanks for stopping by, and please say hello!

p.s.--Please do not use or reproduce my photos without permission. Thanks!

forging through february – 5

:: my kids have been cracking me up lately with the things that come out of their mouths.  when i told miriam we were having granola for dinner tonight, she said, “oh good!  i love it when we have messed up dinners.”

:: i was thinking this morning as i took in the sunshine and balmy temps that, for me, winter is like exercise.  when you’re in the midst of it, you think it’s the worst thing ever and you wonder if you’ll survive another minute, and then as soon as it’s over you think, hey, that really wasn’t so bad.

:: i have discovered a new blog that i really like.  The Mommy Revolution is written by two moms who are very different but who share a passion for encouraging other moms.  i am currently really enjoying a book by one of them called The Myth of the Perfect Mother, and i have recently heard both of them speak on the radio.  i find what they have to say refreshing and freeing.  i am so burnt out on all the parenting books/blogs/teachings that leave you feeling like you just never quite measure up or you’re never quite doing enough.  i’m sure that i have been a propagator of some of this kind of stuff in the past, too… in the days before i realized just how incapable and inadequate i am as a mother when i try to do it in my own strength.

their Revolutionary Manifesto gives a good summary of where they are coming from.

February 9, 2009 - 2:20 pm Carrie Shumaker - Val, I love the Mommy Revolution. Wow, those women are wading in where angels and churches fear to tread! I am glad to hear I'm not the only subversive on the planet. (I can't tell you how glad!)

February 9, 2009 - 3:37 pm Marcie - Hey thanks for offering to help with Liz... I'll keep that in mind. Right now, things are going really well, but there is a very long recovery ahead! I like your thoughts on February, keeping life positive.
